Kadye Molodowsky’s multipart poem « Freydke » (Warsaw, 1935 and 1936) resonated quite a bit for its readers at the time of its publication. We’ll consider the poem’s presentation of female and male characters in the course of their physical and spiritual wanderings; its imagination of Warsaw and Paris; questions of individual and collective enslavement and liberation.  We’ll also explore the text’s many historical and literary allusions.

The seminar will take place entirely in Yiddish.
